Downtown Los Angeles Engagement Shoot

I had a trip planned to go from VA to LA to attend one of my best friend’s annual holiday parties. Since I was going to be in LA for some days I thought why not try to get some shoots in as well. So I texted her and asked her to reach out to her friends to see if anyone was interested in a couple’s shoot. Two friends were interested, but one didn’t work out due to logistics. The one that did work out was Tammy and Azim, and ironically enough, they had JUST gotten engaged.

My friend connected Tammy and I, and Tammy actually already had a vision. Azim is Indian so Tammy wanted to do a traditional shoot. I sent her photos I had done before of my friends Sim and Jancy and she loved them. Tammy found the perfect hotel to do the shoot at, we picked a day and time, and went from there.

The location Tammy picked was Hotel Per La in DTLA.

After arriving at the same time and getting settled, we were greeted by Tammy’s friend Chelsea. Chelsea is the __________ and and had a welcome/congratulations gift for Tammy and Azim which was so thoughtful. I captured them opening the card and pouring the champagne, and after we all had a few sips to calm the nerves we started shooting!

Tammy and Azim’s outfits contrasted but also went so well together. I was a little worried they and their outfits wouldn’t standout as much because some parts of the hotel are decoratively busy, but we found several locations that just kept the focus on them

I always like to start my shoots with the couples being in a comfortable position. They were already on a couch from opening the gift and drinking champagne so I kept them there for a bit.
